Blaine brings his graduate level education and hands-on laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and genetics to the firm’s Toxic Tort and Environmental practice.
He advises members of the practice regarding the many unique and complex scientific issues that are involved in environmental litigation. Blaine also brings his extensive background in, and experience with, federal court litigation to the practice.
Blaine is also a registered patent attorney and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice, focusing on the prosecution and litigation of patents, trademarks and copyrights. He works closely with inventors to prepare patent applications in the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, molecular biology, chemistry and software, among others. Blaine’s practice also includes preparing opinions of counsel relating to freedom to operate, patentability of inventions, patent validity and patent infringement. He is also experienced in litigation involving all aspects of intellectual property in both administrative proceedings and in federal court.
Prior to joining Bond, Blaine obtained a Ph.D. from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse where his research was in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and genetics, studying the effects of stress on the cell. He has authored or co-authored seven research papers, including two with Syracuse University Angela S. Cooney Professor of Law Lisa A. Dolak relating to the portrayal of the United States Patent System in the media.
