Second Circuit Ruling: First Amendment Protects Academic Freedom on Campus
September 26, 2023
By: Howard M. Miller
As a bonus to Bond’s September 26 Business in 2023 webinar, Bond labor and employment attorney Howard M. Miller talked about a recent ruling that found a college professor’s choice to teach an alternative (and not widely accepted) economics theory was free speech protected by the First Amendment. However, the professor, who accused the university of violating his civil rights by not offering him tenure, still lost the case.
The full Tuesday webinar covered the following topics:
- NYS Legislative Update – Labor Bills Signed in September
- First Amendment & Academic Freedom – A Recent Second Circuit Decision
- Some Discipline and Termination Considerations
- Don’t Choke and the Gag Clause Prohibition Requirements
