New Partners and Senior Counsel Named In Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo Offices

Syracuse, NY: Bond, Schoeneck & King is pleased to announce the election of five Partners to the Firm: Sanjeeve K. DeSoyza and William E. Reynolds (Albany), Danielle M. McCann (Syracuse), James Holahan (Rochester), Stephen A. Sharkey (Buffalo), and the election of Karen Veronica DeFio as Senior Counsel (Syracuse).
Mr. DeSoyza is a member of the Firm's Labor and Employment, Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation and Immigration Practice and resides in the Firm's Albany Office. He concentrates his practice in Labor and Employment Law, including the counseling and representation of employers in employment discrimination cases before state and federal courts and agencies, as well as in collective bargaining negotiations, unfair labor practice proceedings, and labor arbitrations. Mr. DeSoyza also regularly assists clients with performance management, discipline and accommodation issues, compliance with employment laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, personnel policy and handbook development, and labor relation matters. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo (B.A., magna cum laude, 1997) and Cornell University (J.D., cum laude, 2002).
Mr. Reynolds is a member of the Firm's Litigation Practice and also resides in the Firm's Albany Office. Mr. Reynolds concentrates his practice in complex civil litigation, in both federal and state trial and appellate courts. He has successfully represented Fortune 50 corporations in complex commercial disputes, and currently represents a major health care institution in an antitrust class action. Mr. Reynolds has successfully represented major governmental agencies and authorities in large, complex cases, both in New York State and in Massachusetts, where he served for four years as an Assistant Attorney General. He is a graduate of Harvard College (B.A., magna cum laude, 1991) and Cornell Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1995).
Ms. McCann, who resides in the Firm's Syracuse Office, concentrates her practice in Business Law and advises publicly-traded and private companies on a variety of corporate and commercial law matters, including mergers, acquisitions and securities. Ms. McCann is the recipient of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York Doris S. Hoffman Outstanding New Lawyer Award and the 2010 40 Under Forty Award and the 2008 Women in Business Award sponsored by the Central New York Business Journal. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross of Central New York and the Onondaga County Bar Association. Ms. McCann also served as the President of the Central New York Women's Bar Association. She is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (B.A.,1998) and Syracuse University College of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2001).
Mr. Sharkey is a trial attorney in the Firm's Buffalo Office with extensive experience representing financial institutions, businesses, insurance companies and individuals in a wide variety of litigated matters in both Federal and State courts. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, insurance litigation (first-party property, coverage, subrogation and third-party liability defense), real property litigation (contract disputes, landlord/tenant, zoning issues and tax assessment challenges), employment litigation (enforcement of non-compete agreements and discrimination claims), the litigation of professional liability claims, construction litigation and securities litigation. In addition, Mr. Sharkey regularly represents lenders and other creditors in adverse bankruptcy proceedings. is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Geneseo (B.A., 1995) and the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Law (J.D., 1998).
Mr. Holahan practices Labor and Employment Law in the Firm's Rochester Office and has represented and counseled employers ranging from Fortune 100 firms to small family businesses about employment matters and labor relations for over 25 years. A substantial portion of his practice involves defending employers against discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge and other employment claims before the New York and federal courts as well as various administrative agencies. Mr. Holahan regularly advises employers about compliance with the federal, state and local laws regulating the employment relationship and counsels employers about managing the complex and ever-changing personnel challenges they face from union organizing and collective bargaining to protecting proprietary information through non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants. Mr. Holahan is a frequent presenter on workplace issues and concerns, and his recent presentations have addressed topics on social media in the workplace, recent developments at the National Labor Relations Board and the New York Wage Theft Protection Act. is a graduate of the University of Rochester (B.A., 1977) and the College of William and Mary (J.D., 1983).
