Navigating Compliance with OCR’s New Guidance on Title VI

May 22, 2024

By: Philip J. Zaccheo

In this week’s Business in 2024 webinar, Bond higher education attorney Philip J. Zaccheo discussed the timely topic of campus protests related to the ongoing Israeli-Hamas conflict and the challenges they pose to college and university administrators. Since the conflict began last October, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has opened more than 100 investigations into alleged violations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ensures nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin. On May 7, 2024, the OCR issued clarifying guidance on what it expects from institutions of higher education regarding Title VI compliance.

The full webinar covered the following topics:

  • Office of Civil Rights Title VI Guidance
  • Power of Attorney Basics
  • DOL Bulletin on AI and Automated Systems in the Workplace
  • Latest Updates on Pregnant Worker Protections
