Marriage Equality: From Outlaws to In-Laws - Complimentary Webinar
June 30, 2021
Using anecdotes and observations from his research, Christopher Riano, Esq., will provide an engaging presentation on the history of marriage equality along with a discussion of current issues of relevance, such as the implications to the LGBTQ community of the Fulton case at the Supreme Court.
The book “Marriage Equality: From Outlaws to In-Laws,” co-authored by William N. Eskridge, Jr. and Mr. Riano, explores the religious, political, administrative, and constitutional features of the debate and considers the different angles of its dramatic history, including its foundations in the Black civil rights movement and the debate within the LGBTQ community about whether marriage rights should be a priority. It offers a thoughtful history of how the nation wrestled with an important question of moral and legal equality.
“Marriage Equality” is the winner of the 2021 Silver Gavel Award from the American Bar Association which recognizes "outstanding work that fosters the American public’s understanding of law and the legal system. This is the ABA’s highest honor in recognition of this purpose."
