Legal Implications of Wearable Technology in the Workplace

January 29, 2025

By: Travis R. Talerico

As a follow-up to this week’s Business in 2025 webinar, Bond labor and employment attorney Travis R. Talerico talked about the legal implications of employers requiring their workers to use wearable technology – such as a smart watch or ring – as part of their job. Because such devices can collect sensitive medical data from wearers, employers need to take care not to violate provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act or Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Topics covered in today’s webinar:

  • FMLA Substitution of Paid Leave: DOL Issues Opinion Letter
  • Recent Updates to NY's Data Breach Reporting Statute
  • Legal Implications of Wearable Technology in the Workplace
