Judge Blocks Vaccine Mandate, Long Island Farm Workers Unionize
October 14, 2021
As a bonus to Bond’s October 12 Back to Business webinar, Bond government relations attorney Caitlin A. Anderson recorded a short video summarizing a preliminary injunction issued this week against the New York State Department of Health’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement for hospital workers. The judge agreed with the plaintiffs – a group of anonymous health care workers – that the vaccine mandate violates their First Amendment rights by not allowing for religious exemptions. So, what does that mean for New York’s hospitals and their employees moving forward? Tune in to hear Caiti’s analysis.
In addition, Bond labor and employment attorney Hilary L. Moreira reports on an uptick in unionizing activity seen on eastern Long Island in response to a law passed in January 2020 that allows farm laborers to organize. What does this trend spell for employers? Check out the video to hear Hilary’s advice about being proactive and staying ahead of the curve.
The full presentation covered the following topics:
- NY Division of Human Rights Developments
- Farm Labor Unionization
- Update from Albany
- COVID Leave Summary and Bond "Mailbag" Questions
