Bond, Schoeneck & King is pleased to announce that Barbara A. Lee has joined the firm as of counsel in its New York City office. Prior to joining Bond, Lee served as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs for Rutgers University where she still holds the position of Distinguished Professor in the School of Management and Labor Relations. Her background in the law and as both a faculty member and academic leader uniquely positions Lee to effectively counsel clients.
Lee is the coauthor, and for decades has updated, the treatise, The Law of Higher Education, largely considered to be the most recognized treatise in the country on higher education law. Lee is a prolific author of innumerable scholarly books and articles, is regularly invited to speak at the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and is currently editor of the Journal of College and University Law, published by NACUA. She is frequently hired as an expert for her vast experience in faculty discipline and personnel matters and investigations across the country, especially as relates to discrimination.
“Barbara is a recognized thought leader in higher education and adds another marquee name to our well-regarded higher education practice,” said Louis DiLorenzo, managing member of Bond’s New York City office. “She will work closely with Monica Barrett, a senior member and co-chair of our higher education practice. Barbara will be a great asset to our practice, lending her experience in many areas, including most recently, her COVID-19 planning experience at Rutgers, to our higher education clients.”
“I have had the privilege of knowing Barbara since we served together in 1992 on the NACUA Board of Directors. Her knowledge of faculty matters, university governance, Title IX and higher education law is unrivaled. Barbara’s legal experience is amplified by years at the highest level of university leadership. She will provide the institutions our firm serves with an unparalleled depth of experience and legal knowledge,” said Shelley Kehl, of counsel at Bond.
Lee earned her Ph.D. and M.A. from The Ohio State University in Higher Education Administration and English respectively, is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center where she earned her J.D. and is a summa cum laude graduate of The University of Vermont.
