Tax Accountant

Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, a law firm of 300 attorneys in over 30 practice groups, is accepting applications for a Tax Accountant, to join the Firm's Trust and Estates Department Practice Group in either our Buffalo or Syracuse, New York office. This position requires a broad working knowledge of federal and New York State estate and gift tax law as well as federal and New York State income tax law applicable to individuals, trusts, estates, and other entities. A familiarity with federal tax laws relating to not-for-profit organizations is also helpful.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare federal gift tax returns and moderate to complex income tax returns of individuals, estates, trusts and, to a more limited extent, corporations and partnerships. Assist others with the preparation of federal and New York State estate tax returns
- Research and consult with attorneys on various federal estate and gift tax matters and federal and New York State income tax matters concerning individuals, corporations, partnerships and not-for-profit organizations
- Assist attorneys with estate planning matters by preparing federal and New York State estate and gift tax projections as well as income tax projections for high net worth individuals
- Prepare exempt organization applications and income tax returns for not-for-profit organizations
- Communicate with the IRS, New York State and other tax authorities regarding notices
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/tax is required
- CPA preferred, with a minimum of 2-5 years tax experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong problem solving/analytical skills and proven interpersonal/teamwork abilities required
- Strong technical skills with attention to detail and high analytical capabilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel & Word, tax preparation and research programs, and tax research services

This position's salary range is between $80,000 to $92,000, negotiable based on years’ experience.
